Taking a bite for health and Christmas!
Christmas can be an expensive time of year, but it doesn't have to be and it doesn't have to be one of compromises either!
Growing your own Christmas presents is a fun way to get the whole family involved in the holidays, and it's also a great way to show loved ones that you care.
We've put together a few tips for helping you grow your own cherries at home, so that you can give something special to everyone on your list this year.
But I've never grown anything, how do I get started?
Growing cherries and other fruit with pips in them is easier than you might think.
To get started all you'll need are the pips from the fruit, some aluminium foil, an airtight container or bag, some cinamon and, depending on the fruit, some cotton pads or paper towel.
The good news is cherries are one of the easiest fruits to grow, but like all fruit they do take some preparation and patience. Here is one of our favorite videos about growing cherries to help get you started:
Conclusion
Growing your own fruit is a great way to get the kids involved in gardening and they'll love seeing the fruits of their labor grow throughout the year.
From just an original purchase of a dozen cherries that you ate, you may get 6, 8 or even 10 cherry trees growing, and they can all be gifts - what an amazing outcome for eating healthy, delicious fruit!
Whomever you give the cherry tree seedlings to will be reminded of you every time they see them growing, and when they eat that first cherry it'll be all the sweeter because you gave it to them!
There's nothing quite like a fruit tree gift, growing from cherries you bought at the supermarket.
Happy eating, and happy gifting!
